Here at Strides we believe the more you move your body, the more your body moves. Our philosophy starts with a positive mental attitude, happiness, and big smiles. Combining that with our knowledge and experience, short and long term goals will be achieved. Unlike more traditional methods of therapy, that limit mobility, our education and experience enable us to interact with the body in ways that encourage functionality. Our functional fitness programs are specific to spinal cord injury and paralysis, and are designed to help individuals with mobility while challenging the limits of believed possibilty. We aim to inspire, educate, encourage, support, and push our clients to their full potential. Our specialized programs include joint flexion, extension, rotation, skeletal loading, strength building, cardiovascular fitness, biomechanics of human movement, specialized gait training, joint stabilization, standing, and circulation. Our primary goal for each client is to be out of their chair for their entire session with us.

OUR STORY :
First of all we are 2 guys that are friends, sons, dads, and brothers.
Second, we are business partner s that are equally passionate about promoting health, progress, and mobility for those living with a spinal cord injury and paralysis.
Josh grew up in Minnesota, where he developed his love for sports. He used football and track primarily to make his way out to California. He attended California Lutheran University and received his degree in sports medicine. He then combined his passion and his education and worked for 10 years at a fitness center, helping individuals reach their goals through physical training.
Jason is a home grown Californian who developed a love for sports and athletics at an early age. In college as a student and athlete, his passion grew into a desire to assist individuals in performing at their best. Jason received his degree in Kinesiology from San Diego State University and received his Masters Degree, also in Kinesiology. His education paved the way for him to become a trainer and educator. A trainer by day and a Kinesiology professor by night. He also worked for 10 years at a fitness center, where he and Josh’s paths not only crossed but merged.
Together they coached and trained all populations from athletes to injured, assisting in helping each individual reach their personal goals. Over the last 15 years, they each have accumulated over 20,000 hours of training experience. Both Jason and Josh have spent the last 5 years focused on training and working with those living with a spinal cord injury and paralysis. During those 5 years, while gaining and applying their experience and education, they both began to think “outside of the box”, and learned new and different ways to challenge the healing body. Their love and excitement for the progress of each person they worked with continued to grow. After much consideration and a number of small and large details “falling into place” they collaborated forces. On June 4th, 2014 STRIDES SCI Functional Fitness was born. A true labor of love, hard work, and commitment to the Spinal Cord Injury and Paralysis community is what landed them both here in the Strides facility, in gorgeous San Juan Capistrano, California.
Strides provides individuals living with a spinal cord injury and paralysis the means to increase the ability to perform activities of daily living. We are determined to assist those with a spinal cord injury and paralysis to reach their short and long term goals, through our services. These goals are achieved through our combined 30 years of experience, education, and training to develop the mind and body for optimum performance. We are determined to create a community and environment promoting healing through support, friendship, encouragement, a sense of purpose, and overall well-being.

Our specialized functional fitness training for spinal cord injury and paralysis includes 1-3 hour sessions of functional movements, strength, cardio vascular, load bearing, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) stretching, along with emotional, psychological, and nutritional coaching.

No, we do not work with or take insurance. We offer a per session (1 hour) rate, and package options. We encourage clients to reach out to foundations that fund and assist training for those with a spinal cord injury and paralysis. Here’s a couple:
