WE BELIEVE:

WE BELIEVE… IN YOU!

Here at Strides we believe the more you move your body, the more your body moves. Our philosophy starts with a positive mental attitude, happiness, and big smiles. Combining that with our knowledge and experience, short and long term goals will be achieved. Unlike more traditional methods of therapy, that limit mobility, our education and experience enable us to interact with the body in ways that encourage functionality. Our functional fitness programs are specific to spinal cord injury and paralysis, and are designed to help individuals with mobility while challenging the limits of believed possibilty. We aim to inspire, educate, encourage, support, and push our clients to their full potential. Our specialized programs include joint flexion, extension, rotation, skeletal loading, strength building, cardiovascular fitness, biomechanics of human movement, specialized gait training, joint stabilization, standing, and circulation. Our primary goal for each client is to be out of their chair for their entire session with us.

If you are living with a spinal cord injury and paralysis, we can’t wait to meet you, join you in your journey, and assist you as you move forward in lengthening your STRIDE!

WE BELIEVE…”Today is a good day, to have a good day!”

OUR STORY :

First of all we are 2 guys that are friends, sons, dads, and brothers.

Second, we are business partner s that are equally passionate about promoting health, progress, and mobility for those living with a spinal cord injury and paralysis.

Josh grew up in Minnesota, where he developed his love for sports. He used football and track primarily to make his way out to California. He attended California Lutheran University and received his degree in sports medicine. He then combined his passion and his education and worked for 10 years at a fitness center, helping individuals reach their goals through physical training.

Jason is a home grown Californian who developed a love for sports and athletics at an early age. In college as a student and athlete, his passion grew into a desire to assist individuals in performing at their best. Jason received his degree in Kinesiology from San Diego State University and received his Masters Degree, also in Kinesiology. His education paved the way for him to become a trainer and educator. A trainer by day and a Kinesiology professor by night. He also worked for 10 years at a fitness center, where he and Josh’s paths not only crossed but merged.

Together they coached and trained all populations from athletes to injured, assisting in helping each individual reach their personal goals. Over the last 15 years, they each have accumulated over 20,000 hours of training experience. Both Jason and Josh have spent the last 5 years focused on training and working with those living with a spinal cord injury and paralysis. During those 5 years, while gaining and applying their experience and education, they both began to think “outside of the box”, and learned new and different ways to challenge the healing body. Their love and excitement for the progress of each person they worked with continued to grow. After much consideration and a number of small and large details “falling into place” they collaborated forces. On June 4th, 2014 STRIDES SCI Functional Fitness was born. A true labor of love, hard work, and commitment to the Spinal Cord Injury and Paralysis community is what landed them both here in the Strides facility, in gorgeous San Juan Capistrano, California.

Strides provides individuals living with a spinal cord injury and paralysis the means to increase the ability to perform activities of daily living. We are determined to assist those with a spinal cord injury and paralysis to reach their short and long term goals, through our services. These goals are achieved through our combined 30 years of experience, education, and training to develop the mind and body for optimum performance. We are determined to create a community and environment promoting healing through support, friendship, encouragement, a sense of purpose, and overall well-being.

Jason and Josh are the top in their field. If you have any questions, would like to meet them personally, or would just like to see what Strides is all about…Email, call, or feel free to just stop on in!

FAQ:

Is there any time limit after injury for regaining function?

We promote fitness for health and increasing activities of daily living.  Every spinal cord injury and form of paralysis is unique to each individual as well as regaining function is unique to each individual.  If you move you will gain more movement,  if you don’t move you will move less regardless of duration of  time post injury.

What are some keys to improvement?

We believe that improvement with spinal cord injuries and paralysis start with a mind set of determination, consistency, perseverance to move forward, a positive outlook, and the commitment to taking new STRIDES.

Do you take insurance?

No, we do not work with or take insurance. We offer a per session (1 hour) rate, and package options. We encourage clients to reach out to foundations that fund and assist training for those with a spinal cord injury and paralysis. Here’s a couple:

helphopelive.org

What medical records or release forms do I need in order to start training?

We encourage each client to share their most recent bone density scan and a medical release from their doctor. We require a signed liability form.

Does my care giver need to be present at my sessions?

Yes. We are not care givers. We feel that it is valuable and beneficial to our clients to have their care giver present during their session to meet any care giving needs.

Black, cream or sugar?

Jason, sweetened creamer. Laurie, hemp milk, ginger, and cinnamon. Josh hates coffee!

Is this training safe?

YES! We have an impeccable safety record. In over 4 years of work with SCI we have never had an incidence of injury. We specialize in adapting equipment to meet the needs of each individual. Our high value of safety is based on risk-benefit factor. If the risk out weighs the benefit we won’t do it.

Can I use your equipment outside of my scheduled session and is there a fee for that?

Yes, we encourage you to use our equipment outside of your scheduled session as long as another client is not using it. There is no fee.

How much experience do the trainers have that will be working directly with me?

Check out Our Story for specific qualifications. Currently each trainer has over 20,000 hours of training experience with able body clients and spinal cord injury and paralysis.

What is my commitment?

We don’t require a commitment contract. We offer services at a per session fee, or sessions in a larger quantity can be purchased through our offered package options. We believe your level of commitment is determined by you. Determination and consistency are some of the keys to improvement. We are honored to support and join with you, in your journey to regaining function and achieving the goals you are committed to. We believe the more you move your body, the more your body can and will move!

If you need help with a transfer once you reach our facility, one of our trainers will be happy to assist you!

If you have more questions or would like to discuss getting started on your own program feel free to give us a call, email, or stop in and see us. We look forward to meeting you and assisting you in your next BIG STRIDE forward.
